Arrogance and Complacency!

As detailed in the following article, It appears that Arrogance and Complacency are rife within the Coalition.  Kate Devlin and Michael Settles article in the herald detail what I’m on about. Have a read first, then continue on.

So, Cameron and Co believe that Scotland are sheep who will blindly do their bidding. Has “Project Fear” really won? I don’t think so! It’s a long time between now and the referendum. Complacency on either sides part is wrong, and not giving the people of Scotland the benefit of intelligent debate.

So far, all I have seen from the No campaign and Westminster Govt. Is lies and scaremongering on all the relevant points, whereas the Yes camp and Indy Parties have been answering those questions that they can with positivity and backed up facts.

If you vote no, at least educate yourself as to WHY you will vote no, NOT just because “That’s what we’ve always had!” or because “I don’t want Salmond to run Scotland!”.

Remember that the referendum in 2014 is JUST to decide if we should run our own affairs instead of a Londoncentric Govt so far removed that they consider Scotland with contempt and disdain.

We vote for WHO we want to run us in 2016, NOT 2014!
Your choice is open after the referendum, and as with ANY general election, it is the combined will of the people WHO runs Scottish affairs in 2016. Be it Labour, the Greens, Lib Dems SNP or (God Forbid!) The Conservatives!

I hope that we do vote Yes in 2014, We see a big change in party policies in the transitional period until the 2016 vote, and that we have a strong, truly democratic Govt, For the people and By the people in a newly independent Scotland.

Our choice is, Vote No and get a Westminster Govt who we, as a nation, do not vote for running our affairs, Or vote Yes and get a Govt Voted for by the people of Scotland running Scottish affairs.

True Democracy can only be achieved by a Yes vote. Lets do it for our future! Let’s do it for our Kids future! Let’s just do it!

No need to choose. You are Scottish AND British. (And always will be)

One of the things that exasperates me time and time again in the independence debate, is the ” I don’t want to choose wether to be Scottish or British, Why can’t I be both?” question.

Let me set the record straight.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO!

Ok, a bit shouty, but it’s something that grates on my nerves. It shows a basic lack of understanding of what Britain is.

Britain is NOT the Union, it IS the Landmass we all live on. Unless Westminster was to suddenly detach Scotland in the event of a Yes vote, and send it adrift in the Atlantic, You can be rest assured that we will STILL be British as well as Scottish.

The argument is similar to saying that France CANNOT be European if they decided to leave the EC, Europe is the land area or region of which we all the countries reside.

Lets put some pics up to show that I’m not talking mush.

First a map of Britain from 1595, Just prior to the Union of the crowns, and well before the Treaty of Union.

Map 1595

Next a map from 1621, A little while after the Union of the Crowns, and again before the Treaty of Union.

map 1621

Next we have a map from 1680, Long after the Union of crowns, and a little way from the Treaty of Union.

Map 1680

Finally, we have a map from 1720, After both the Union of the Crowns and the Union of Treaty.

map 1720

The one thing you will notice in ALL of the maps, is that that the entire areas are referred to as Britannia, or Britain.

Don’t let the naysayers tell you that you will have to  choose, as that is false, You are and always will be Both Scottish AND British!

Addendum: The Union of the Crowns occurred in 1606 when King James VI of Scotland Became King James I of England.
The Treaty of Union was signed in 1707 suspending the Scottish parliament and joining Westminster and Holyrood together into one political system.

Need for Food Banks Rise

Image

Foodbanks a reporting a massive increase in usage since last year. Iain Duncan Smith seems to think that the rise in food bank Usage is down to people “Wanting free handouts”. How utterly ridiculous! The reason people use food banks is because they have no other choice. It is because they cannot afford to either feed themselves or their families. In a country, supposedly one of the wealthiest nations on the planet, this situation is both wrong and morally corrupt!

George Osbourne during his Spending review last week also cut more from the poorest hit in our society, whilst at the same time INCREASING foreign aid. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that we should help those nations who require help, but when you are one of those nations, shouldn’t we be concentrating on helping OUR poorest?

It appears that Cameron, Osborne and cronies have no idea what it is really like for those at the sharp end of the stick. They have never had to live off measly earnings, they have multimillion pound bank accounts, and to top it off, they are able to claim expenses that would feed the average family for YEARS.

Now I personally don’t claim to be poor, but even I have to resort to selling items just so I can make ends meet at the end of the month. It’s about time these idiots came down from their ivory towers and lived like us mere mortals for a while, and then see if they think their cuts are fair!

(By the way, would anyone like to buy an electric drum kit? 😉 )
